October 1, 2021 A daily prayer from the New England Conference The clergy and laity of the New England Conference are sharing a daily prayer based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the week. You are welcome to use these in worship or in your own devotions. Today's Prayer Psalm 8 celebrates God’s majesty but also the unique place of human beings in creation. Holy and brilliant God, your name echoes around the galaxy. When we gaze at the skies and meditate on Your creation— on the moon, stars, and all You have made. We can't help but wonder who are we, humans, specks of dust floating about the cosmos. And yet... you have repeated the charge to care for this handcrafted world–made us stewards of it all, sheep and cattle, even animals out in the wild, birds flying and fish swimming, whales singing in the ocean deeps. I have found the prayers from the diverse voices of enfleshed.com especially helpful in my devotional time and in creating liturgy that matters. God of holy chaos, you don’t protect us from getting swept up into relationships and systems and experiences that are messy, but you do promise us that you will be found in the midst of them. Help us to remember that when the world was aching, you drew nearer, putting on flesh. It was through that enfleshed reality of love, that you transformed our world. Relationship with you is not an escape – it is the hope and courage we need to dive right into the mess of things. You, O God, are enfleshed in our beautiful but aching earth, in our work for a just society, and in our efforts to love and be loved. May our prayer life be invitations into that life with you.
