A daily prayer from the New England Conference

The clergy and laity of the New England Conference are sharing a daily prayer based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the week. You are welcome to use these in worship or in your own devotions.

Today's Prayer

Maternal-Father, you know we live in a threatening world and in a threatening time. Unnatural natural disasters have become commonplace. Covid-19 and its variants continue to stalk us. Social, political, and economic instability rattle our sense of security. Enemies within, enemies without, terrorism on every side, so it seems. Powers beyond our own, and our own intransigence, are heading us into an apocalypse and its staggering suffering, suffering no one will escape. If you, Lord, be not "on our side," our "enemies" will surely overtake us. So, we appeal to your steadfast love and faithfulness, to save us yet again. Convert our hearts and minds to your will and way of love, for our earth and for each other. Wean us from our idolatrous worship of ego and nation, violence and greed. Permeate the Powers that would destroy us with your truth and mercy, and with people of faith who work for justice in all spheres of life. Yes, move within us and among us with the supreme power of your Spirit, lest we perish in our ignorance and foolishness. For in you, Maternal-Father, is our help, the divine assistance which saves us. Amen.

~ Rev. John Hardman-Zimmerman, Tinmouth Community UMC; Green Mountain District
