A Daily Devotion for Tuesday, March 10

1John 4:7-12

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

Matthew 25:40

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’”

Reading these passages remind me to be more mindful of opportunities to show love. A smile and a helpful hand can mean a lot to someone who is hurting or struggling. I have been on the receiving end of these gestures many times in my life, and I know how much they have meant to me. And I need to remember, we only know how to love because God has shown us, from our very beginnings. 1John 4:19 reminds us: We love because he first loved us.

Holy Lord, today I am blessed to begin my day with such beautiful and simple reminders of your love for us, and of your command to love one another. May I take every opportunity, starting now, to extend that love which you have shown me. I am so thankful, Lord. Amen

Becky, transforming
