Psalm 8
LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory in the heavens.
Through the praise of children and infants
you have established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger.
When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers, the moon
and the stars, which you have set in place,
what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?
You have made them a little lower than the angels
and crowned them with glory and honor.
You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their feet:
all flocks and herds, and the animals of the wild, the birds in the sky, and the fish in the sea,
all that swim the paths of the seas.
LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
Today this psalm reminds me of how important our role is from a stewardship perspective. God essentially named us all as caretakers of His creation. How are we doing with that? Where and how can I do more? God has put so much responsibility into our hands. On one hand, I know that as an individual consumer living on the planet, I have little control over the big picture. On the other hand, am I doing everything I can and should be doing? A few things come to mind. This is definitely a topic I don’t pay enough attention to.
Holy Lord, forgive me, I pray, for my sins of complacency. I take way too much for granted, and forget my responsibilities. I am so thankful for your generosity, grace and love. Help me to see the ways that I can do better. Amen

Psalm 8
This Psalm reminds me to fully appreciate the wonders of God‘s creation and how miraculous He can be. After record breaking freezes in Florida I have been unhappy about the damage to the tropical plants in our yard, crispy, black and brown. This morning I noticed, at the base of a particularly hard hit schefflera, tiny little leaves of new growth emerging. I would have typically ripped these out and replanted, but this signal of hope made me realize that in the most impossible situations God brings hope. I pray that I will always be a good steward of this earth and always care as God always cares for me.
Dear God, thank you for this wonderful earth…
Psalm 8:1-9. Diving Deeper
For many people, being in nature is their connection to God. A walk in the woods or along the shore is something that calms many. Growing, harvesting, and sharing the bounty is another connection for many. The wonder of God's creation is not just to enjoy, but to care for as well. We need to take the time to look around to appreciate its diversity. Part of my job on this earth is not just appreciating His creation but also helping to insure many generations to come may have the same experience. Each of us can do our small part but as a whole we can preserve and protect much.

DIVING DEEPER
(FOCUS those desiring a deeper relationship with Christ
Today’s Reading: psalm 8:1-9
Psalm 8:3-4
When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?
Unlike the author in the upper room this morning, I love the sea I love the peace it gives me, and each time I am there I realize the magnificent creations all around me. I always feel closer to God when I am at the sea. I have yet to dive under the sea…
Psalm 8
Whenever I read or hear this psalm, I am always drawn to the psalmist’s amazement that the creator of the universe not only cares for, but has also put human beings in the place of caring for and stewarding this planet. We have been made in God’s image unlike any other created thing or being. With that comes great responsibility. The individual human can indeed feel puny and powerless against all the factors that conspire to despoil our earth, but with the gifts that God has graced each of us, we must never underestimate the power of one. On thinking of the parable of the talents, I do not want to be one facing the Lord having buried…
