A Daily Devotion for Friday, June 26

Zechariah 9:9-12
I understand this to be part of God’s promise to restore Israel to His chosen people and to send a savior. But I can’t help being struck again
by verse 10b: His rule will extend from sea to sea and from the River to the ends of the earth.
Although the Israelites were chosen to start this change in the world, the entire world is included in God’s creation and promise. And all the world can claim God as their own God, and can honor the earth as God’s gift to them.
My favorite hymn is “This is My Song “, and the lyrics by Lloyd Stone move me deeply. “My country’s skies are bluer than the ocean, and sunshine beams on cloverleaf and pine; but other lands have sunlight too, and clover, and skies are everywhere as blue as mine.”
Lord God, you have given so much to me and to all of us. I am thankful beyond words. Your creation is astounding. I can never deserve all the gifts and all the grace you shower on me. Amen
