Psalm 139:13-18
For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
How precious to me are your thoughts, God!
How vast is the sum of them!
Were I to count them,
they would outnumber the grains of sand —
when I awake, I am still with you.
How often do we lament the imperfections of our bodies?!! Especially for women, this is a very common struggle. Why do we have to grow old and gray before we become thankful for our good health? For a new mother, watching her baby go through surgical procedures and require ongoing medical care and supervision must have been heartbreaking and exhausting. But to be able to see God’s hand in the big picture- what a blessing! God does make each of us just the way we are. When we are thankful, we can become an example for others. We are, indeed, “all fearfully and wonderful made.”
Holy Lord, I do not thank you enough for my good health and my physical stamina. Sometimes I get so caught up in my feelings and emotions that I lose sight of the big picture. I am so very thankful for my health. I will do my best to sustain it. Amen

I have struggled with weight a good part of my life. It has affected me in different ways at different times in my life. Sometimes I can be self deprecating, a bad habit, I know. Most people have things about themselves they wish were different. As I read these verses it makes me think…knowing that God created me very intentionally makes me view myself just a bit differently. It goes back to the old adage, “God doesn’t make junk”. I may not be able to run a marathon, model on a runway or pull off wearing a bikini at the beach but I have worth, God saw to that, and for that I am thankful.

We often hear of people using difficult situations to then pay it forward for others in similar situations. This is what the Mother in today's UR story did. My cousin Kathie has a grandson with leukemia. He has been treated for almost a year and is doig well. His Dad is going to Bike the Pan Mass Challenge to raise money for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. This is a huge undertaking, but what a wonderful way to support a cause that is now part of their lives.
Prayer: Gracious God, Thank you for offering ways to support families facing challenges. AMEM
Psalm 139:13-18
We tend to view ourselves differently at different seasons of life. From the carefree obliviousness of childhood, to the constant angst of adolescence, to the invincibility of young adulthood and finally the disappointment over losses and debilities as we age. In all seasons, God holds us and our fragile earthly frames in loving care. From womb to deathbed, we are the works of God’s hands and in that, have sacred worth and dignity, whatever our perceived physical shortcomings may be.
Prayer - Creator God, I pray that those who are disabled or have loved ones with disabilities and other health concerns find peace and joy in the knowledge You’ve got the whole world in Your hands. Amen
