2Peter 1:5-11
For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.
Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble, and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
We have been given the gift of the Holy Spirit, which brings with it the ‘fruits of the Spirit.’ We have all the tools we need to live Godly productive lives, as long as we allow that Spirit to guide us. There is a sentence in this passage that just grabbed my attention: “For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.” This is a good reminder to me that the fruits of the Holy Spirit are available to me, but not guaranteed to take over my sinful nature. I need to nurture and develop these qualities. I need to help with the “increasing measure.”
Holy Father, help me to remember the tools and the gifts you have already laid out for me. I have everything I need to live a Godly, Spirit-filled life. I am grateful for all of your gifts. Amen

2 Peter 1:5-11
Goodness, knowledge, self control, perseverance, godliness, mutual affection, love…being honest, I think some days this is a tall order, but I think Peter is telling believers to continually work in it, we don’t become perfect Christians at the snap of a finger, our growth is gradual, it’s intentional and takes a lot of effort. It reminds me of the titmice I watch at my feeders almost every morning…they take a sunflower seed or peanut, one at a time, they take it to a branch or a fence post and tap it over and over until the fruit they are after is revealed and then they fly back to the feeder for more. They are patient and ver…
2 Peter 1:5-11
These verses are our encourgement to continue to grow our faith. This requires work on our part. An hour or so on Sunday is not enough. We need to become an active part of our church family. Bible studies and Bible reading, will do much to build our faith. Faith, like church should be a verb. They should be action words. We should not be complacent like stagnant, standing water. We should be like a rushing stream. I just read this today, so I will include it. You will not impact the world by faithfully going to church. You will impact the world by faithfully BEING the church when you go onto the world. VERB-ACTION!

2Peter 1:5-11
This morning’s passage reads like a sanctification road map to me: faith to goodness to knowledge to self-control to perseverance to godliness to mutual affection, all leading eventually to love. It is not always an easy road. I have taken wrong turns, ill-advised shortcuts and unanticipated detours, but somehow, the Holy Spirit finds me and guides me back to the right road. Each day is a blessing, but within it lurks the distractions and temptation to take my eyes off the road and that carries the same risk to my sanctification as doing the same thing behind the wheel of my car to my physical body. I’m too close to home to wreck my spiritual car now.
