Proverbs 3:1-12
My son, do not forget my teaching,
but keep my commands in your heart,
for they will prolong your life many years
and bring you peace and prosperity.
Let love and faithfulness never leave you;
bind them around your neck,
write them on the tablet of your heart.
Then you will win favor and a good name
in the sight of God and man.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.
Do not be wise in your own eyes;
fear the LORD and shun evil.
This will bring health to your body
and nourishment to your bones.
Honor the LORD with your wealth,
with the firstfruits of all your crops;
then your barns will be filled to overflowing,
and your vats will brim over with new wine.
My son, do not despise the LORD’s discipline,
and do not resent his rebuke,
because the LORD disciplines those he loves,
as a father the son he delights in.
Verse 3 is my favorite part of this chapter in Proverbs: “Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind the around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.” Paul uses this imagery in 2Corinthians 3:3; “You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.” I would like my heart to be recognizable to all who know me, know of me, or meet me for the first time. May I be seen and known and recognized as a faithful Christian- first to God, and then to all others.
Holy Lord, I will do better. Help me, I pray, to always remember your teachings, and the example of Christ. Help me to write them again and again, on my heart. Amen

Proverbs 3:1-2. Paths of Faith
I read a few versions of these verses. I particularly liked The Message version of verse 6--"Listen for God's voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; He's the one who will keep you on track." Listening is often so difficult in this noisy, busy world. Psalm 46:10 is one of my favorites. "Be still and know that I am God. We cannot listen to him unless we can be still and be close. Quiet time, prayer time, and devotion time can help us hear him. We shouldn't neglect this time in the busyness of our days.
Prayer: Gracious God, help me to always find that quiet moment for us to be together. AMEN
Proverbs 3:1-12
Reading this familiar passage from Proverbs makes me wonder how well or effectively I passed these lessons on to my own children. Solomon is writing as a loving father to impart wisdom from the loving Father of us all. If we do not demonstrate these things to our children, the task of discovering and learning them on their own becomes more difficult. Keeping God’s commands, trusting God and not our own faulty understanding, submitting to God, humility, generosity and self-control are all patterns of behavior that put us on the path of sanctification. That path is easier to find with a faithful and loving guide.
