A daily prayer from the New England Conference
The clergy and laity of the New England Conference are sharing a daily prayer based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the week.
You are welcome to use these in worship or in your own devotions.
Today’s Prayer
God, the Word of Life, who made all things come into being with your word, You had the light pierce the darkness with your word. Your creation tells your glory and declares the knowledge of our God. Thank you for giving us the precepts to revive the soul, make wise the simple, rejoice the heart, and enlighten the eyes. And thank you for guiding us on our faith journey by making your words known to us through the written word and the Spirit of truth as we seek you diligently. O God, our Redeemer, we acknowledge that all of us make many mistakes, particularly in speaking. Enable us to realize our sins to repent and experience your grace of pardon and renewal. Forgive us for the inappropriate, negative, unbelieving, or gossipy words we uttered with the same mouth that blessed God. We repent for saying things out of our minds that we set not on divine things but on human things. Keep us, O God, from proud thoughts so that they may not have dominion over our tongue. Send us your word like fine gold to keep our hearts and minds from evil so that we may make our lips pure and truthful and proclaim your glory and the word of life. Help us to follow Jesus our Lord by denying ourselves in our language as well as our actions so that they may manifest the gospel and that Jesus might not be ashamed of us when he returns. Strengthen our spirits to speak as one speaking the very word of God so that the words of our mouth may be acceptable to you and be the words of breakthrough bringing faith, hope, love, wisdom, healing, and peace into our and other people’s lives on the earth. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen. Based on Proverbs 1:20-33, Psalm 19, James 3:1-12, Mark 8:27-38. Hae Jin Bahng
