A daily prayer from the New England Conference
Members of the New England Conference Extended Cabinet are sharing a daily prayer based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the week.
You are welcome to use these in worship or in your own devotions.
Today's Prayer
Gracious God,
Jesus was received into the home of his dear friends, Martha and Mary. Both of them wanted to serve him. Both wanted to sit with him. One labored to prepare food for him to eat. One partook of the bread of his presence.
You know we are like them. Sometimes we sit at Jesus’ feet, attentive to his presence, listening to his teaching. Sometimes we are anxious, troubled, distracted, and resentful unable to be attentive to him. Grant us wisdom to know when to eat and when to serve when to rest and when to work when to be active and when to cease our toil, even when our labor is for you. Teach us how to be with you, to be lost in the joy of your presence, whether in our labor or in our rest. Show us how to harmonize our doing and being, to be present with Jesus in the here and now, where he always meets us. We ask this in the name of Christ Jesus, who lives in communion with you and the Holy Spirit, here, now, and forever. Amen.
