Psalm 145:1-7
I will exalt you, my God the King;
I will praise your name for ever and ever.
Every day I will praise you
and extol your name for ever and ever.
Great is the LORD and most worthy of praise;
his greatness no one can fathom.
One generation commends your works to another;
they tell of your mighty acts.
They speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty—
and I will meditate on your wonderful works.
They tell of the power of your awesome works—
and I will proclaim your great deeds.
They celebrate your abundant goodness
and joyfully sing of your righteousness.
I can relate to the writer of today’s devotion in the UR. Bringing snacks and fun goodies to grandchildren can no doubt be rewarding. But it is nice to be appreciated just for being there. When grannie isn’t bringing goodies, she is no doubt calling, texting, praying, loving them from whatever distance separates them. They know she is there, they know they can call her. God is all of that and so much more. Just knowing God is always present is in itself a huge comfort to me. And I have to remember that comfort and that presence even when I am hurting. I must turn to Him and not away from Him.
Holy Lord, I am grateful for your love. I am thankful for your gifts and blessings, but most of all I am thankful knowing that you love me, you are sending help to me, and you will never leave me. This means more than any material gift. Amen

Psalm 145:1-7
The illustration about the red tote bag full of goodies was cute, but the takeaway for me this morning was in how the contributor closed her reflection: “Sometimes we have hard seasons. We may be waiting for answers. Discouragement can cause us to feel like God no longer brings blessings to us. In those times, do I still praise God spontaneously and passionately? I am reminded to be deliberate about praise. I love all the ‘goodies,’ but I love the Giver of good gifts even more.”
Indeed, praise needs to be raised from the valleys as well as the peaks, even when the valley seems very dark.
