A daily prayer from the New England Conference
The clergy and laity of the New England Conference are sharing a daily prayer based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the week. You are welcome to use these in worship or in your own devotions.
Today's Prayer
Based on 2 Samuel 11:26 - 12:13a, Psalm 51:1-12, Exodus 16:2-4, 9-15, Psalm 78:23-29, Ephesians 4:1-16, John 6:24-35 God, You provided manna and quail to Your people so that they would not go hungry during their journey to the Promised Land; they complained. You placed David upon the throne, having power and dominion over the people; he misused it. You call us to be patient, gentle, and to do our best to bring unity to the body of Christ. Giving us gifts of the Spirit to accomplish these things is such a blessing yet, we fail to attempt at times. We fall short, over and over and here You are; still being faithful to Your people. Forgive us. Forgive us when we fail to look toward the ministry You have called us to participate in and instead look toward that which makes us feel good at the moment. We miss out on blessing others when we ignore You or complain because we would much rather be doing something SO MUCH more important than sharing the gospel, helping Your people or even attending worship. Those things get in the way of our own earthly wants and desires. Help us to recognize what brings glory to You and how we are to live that out. Guide us in our journey to the Promised Land; eternity with You. Help us so to love others that our own desires are in union with Yours, and our will succumbs to Yours. We praise You Almighty God for never leaving nor forsaking us and instead, continually calling us to follow You and Your ways. In Jesus’ holy name we pray, Amen. By: Pastor Virginia “Ginny” Doran, pastor of Wesley United Methodist Church of Wareham, MA, Seacoast District.
