A daily prayer from the New England Conference
Members of the New England Conference Extended Cabinet are sharing a daily prayer based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the week.
You are welcome to use these in worship or in your own devotions.
Today's Prayer
Listen to me, O coastlands, pay attention, you peoples from far away! The LORD called me before I was born, while I was in my mother's womb God named me. God made my mouth like a sharp sword, in the shadow of his hand he hid me; God made me a polished arrow, in his quiver he hid me away. Isaiah 49:1-2
Tune: Beach Spring (Wash, O God, Our Sons And Daughters, UMH 605) In the womb you called and named me, In the world you shape my life. Hidden in your hand’s own shadow, ‘til a time of gathering strife. Launch me now, a peaceful arrow polished by the Spirit’s love, to the heart of sin, our shadow, which struck true becomes a dove. From the womb you washed and called us. Now your glory moves us on. Like your son, oh God of Jacob, Help these servants to respond. Nothing mattering but your purpose, All things mattering in your love. Let our words ring true with justice Shine the light to your beloved. Holy One in Three most glorious, Here we lift our praise to you. On the coastlands hear our chanty In the mountains, words sung true. In the cities where we labor, In the farms from which we’re fed For the life you lead among us. Bathed in love and justice led. Words by Rev. Karen L. Munson, DMIN, Many Waters District Superintendent
