A daily prayer from the New England Conference

Members of the New England Conference Extended Cabinet are sharing a daily prayer based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the week.

You are welcome to use these in worship or in your own devotions.

Today's Prayer

Parent God, People always speak about cherishing every moment of our children’s lives because they grow up so quickly. This never feels truer than at this time of year when we take a three-week whirlwind tour from Christ’s birth, blessing, and exile, to his preteen time in the temple, to his baptism as an adult in the river. It’s easy to feel like we are missing out on what must have been extraordinary moments from Jesus’ growing up. Of course, for those of us who see family and friends infrequently, and even less during the pandemic, this lectionary tempo resonates with our disbelief at how much our far-off loved ones have changed while we are parted from one another. If we do miss much in our rushing through the years, let us not miss today — the rich gifts of this day, the perseverance of others to be present to us, the opportunity to welcome and host a stranger, the revelation that others value what we take for granted, the blessing that starts here and expands to the whole world, taking us on a new and different road toward home. Amen and Amen. By Rev. Jill Colley Robinson, Green Mountain District Superintendent Inspired by recent lectionary gospel and Luke 3
