A daily prayer from the New England Conference
Members of the New England Conference Extended Cabinet are sharing a daily prayer based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the week.
You are welcome to use these in worship or in your own devotions.
Today's Prayer
Luke 1: 39-55 We so often think of Mary, the mother of Jesus, as meek and mild, but when I read the above scripture and when I listen to “The Canticle of the Turning,” (especially the Mark Miller version) makes me re-evaluate. There is a famous quote from St. Augustine that "singing is praying twice." This musical piece not only makes me pray but stirs me to action. Oh God, Our spirits rejoice. You know us completely and still call us good. You’ve done great things for us. Revolutionary, you scatter the proud. You’ve brought rulers down from their positions of power and privilege. But you lift up the poor, the ill, and wounded. Rather than hanging out on Wall Street, you join us at the Soup Kitchen and the homeless shelter. You are merciful to Abraham, to his descendants, even all the generations down to us. Just as you’ve promised. May it be so, according to your word. Amen. By Rev. Megan Stowe, Commonwealth West District Superintendent
