Daily Prayer

Dec. 3, 2021

A daily prayer from the New England Conference

Members of the New England Conference Extended Cabinet are sharing a daily prayer based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the week.

You are welcome to use these in worship or in your own devotions.

Today's Prayer

“By the tender mercy of our God, the dawn from on high will break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.” Luke 1:78-79

At this Advent, I pray for a dawn to break upon, not just from on high but from deep within. I pray for a sun to rise, not just on those who sit in darkness and in death but on my own shadow behind which I hide myself even from God. I pray for a light to illumine, not just to guide this polarized and conflicted world into the way of peace but to guide me to prepare a room deep within to welcome the Prince of Peace. At this Advent, I pray for a dawn to break upon, not just from on high but from deep within …
