A daily prayer during this COVID-19 crisis
During these difficult days, members of the clergy class of 2021 are sharing a daily prayer based on the Revised Common Lectionary for the week.
You are welcome to use these in worship or in your own devotions.
Today’s prayer
Loving God, We rejoice today, for the rising of the sun is a reminder that you are the everlasting sustainer of life. We rejoice today because of your Son, who rose from the grave to declare your power over sin. We rejoice today because the Holy Spirit has been poured out to all who believe that each day we may be grounded in your grace. Yet we confess that so often we praise you with our lips but our hearts are far removed from yours. We are eager to recite the creeds memorized from childhood but look away from your children who cry out in pain. We brush off the voices of those who highlight injustice around us, failing to remember that you are a God of justice, And that to love and praise you is to love one another as you have loved us. Forgive us today for being focused on being recipients of your love, and neglecting to become stewards through which your love flows into the world. Remind us once more of your self-giving love that calls us your beloved, that we may look to those around us through the lens of your love. May the loudest praise of our lives not be in empty words, but in the way we care for your beloved all around us. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
