A Daily Devotion for Monday, April 29

1John 1:5

This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.

This verse reminds me that all good and beautiful things come from Him. Nothing which is bad or sinful comes from God. God offers us love and light, and His will does not include sin. When we declare we are followers of God, we must turn away from darkness and sin, at every opportunity.

Holy Lord, you are light itself; light in the morning, which brings joy, and light in the lamp which guides my path. I give my thanks today and always. Be with me, Lord, so that I do not lose my way. Amen

1 John 1:5. From The Message

This, in essence, is the message we heard from Christ and are passing on to you: God is light, pure light; there’s not a trace of darkness in Him.

This verse reveals to us, through John , the true essence of God’s character. He represents all that is good - light and belief in Him and his words can save us from evil - darkness or help us out of darkness into light. Verses 1-10 are very important if you feel lost in darkness and need to find light.

Prayer: Gracious God, I pray these words will help others out of their darkness into your light. Amen

1 John 1:5

This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

Light represents what is good, darkness represents what is sinful. Sin is a problem if we refuse to recognize it and deal with it. Take responsibility for our wrong actions receive his gift of forgiveness and ask him to help us do better. When we admit our sin and ask for forgiveness Jesus washes away the guilt and we can live with God with a clear conscience.

Lord, I am so thankful for your gift of forgiveness. Guide me as I meditate on your word and make sure…

1John 1:5

The light/dark duality is seen throughout Scripture. Light is a perfect metaphor for God. It is the first fundamental property of the universe created by God, allowing and sustaining life. It reveals what is hidden. Light and darkness cannot coexist in the same place. Sin and righteousness are as mutually exclusive as light and darkness. Walking in God’s light is more than imitating God, but in becoming more Godly - transformation. Calling ourselves “transformers” is a great place to start.

Prayer - God of light, I want to walk as a child of light. Thank you for the perfect example of that walk in Jesus Christ. I ask the Holy Spirit to guide me on that walk of…
