A Daily Devotion for Wednesday, September 17

1 Peter 4:8-11

Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.

I love the devotion written for today, of the man with Parkinson’s who goes to the end of his driveway on school days to wave at the schoolkids as they go by in their buses. There are so many levels of good in this story. The man, Dave, does not hide in his house with his disabling disease. He is teaching these children empathy, to the point that they call out, “we love you, Dave!”. He is letting them know that they are valued and he cares about seeing them every day. Beautiful. It brought to mind a woman and her ministry which I follow on Instagram called “Dinky Ponies”. She brings her small Shetland ponies (one at a itime!) nto nursing homes and hospitals. She encourages the people who are living there to pet the soft pony nose, and invariable the person smiles and responds. The owner of the ponies is kind and loving, and understands how to introduce the people to her ponies. The ponies often gently lay their nose in the lap of the resident and even close their eyes. What a beautiful thing it is to watch this- it never gets old for me. God bless this woman with the dinky ponies and God bless Dave. And Lord, help me to be a small light to others, and I will do my best to follow through. Amen

David’s wave

(Focus people with Parkinson’s disease

1 Peter 4:10

As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace:

One of the best ways we can love God is by serving and loving others. If this doesn't come naturally don't worry. God has already equipped us with gifts and abilities to serve those around us. This plan will helps to  identify practical ways that we can lovingly serve both people and God. My talents will differ from yours. God gave us our gifts not so we can compare ourselves to others but as a personal blessing so that we can serve God's…

1 Peter 4:8-11 Scripture tells us love covers a multitude of sins, but there are times I admit when I wonder if love is enough. Satan is resourceful, ruthless and the agent of pure evil. It takes monumental effort during very difficult times to lean on the love of God, but when I realize that it Is my best and perhaps only weapon, then the battle can be joined in confidence.

Prayer - Lord, you know my heart, my sense of helplessness. I am placing all my faith, hope and trust in you for deliverance from the evil one. Amen
