Psalm 66:16-20

Come and hear, all you who fear God;

let me tell you what he has done for me.

I cried out to him with my mouth;

his praise was on my tongue.

If I had cherished sin in my heart,

the Lord would not have listened;

but God has surely listened

and has heard my prayer.

Praise be to God,

who has not rejected my prayer

or withheld his love from me!

Micah 7:7

But as for me, I watch in hope for the LORD,

I wait for God my Savior;

my God will hear me.

This is a great lesson for all of us. I often have an image of how things should be handled, or could be handled, if God would do just this one thing. If God would just shake that tree, the shoe would fall out. But we often miss the small things or the people God puts in our path, giving us just exactly what we need in order to get through our struggle. This is where journaling would be helpful for me. If I listed the things I pray about, I could later look at them, and see how they worked out, each and every need being met in some way. God is good, and answers our prayers, one way or another.

Holy Lord, I trust you to work things out according to your will. Help me to grow my faith and hope, seeing your love and guidance in my life and in the lives of those I love. Amen

Psalm 66:16-20/Micah 7:7

The promise and mystery of answers to prayer is a topic we have come back to many times. I thought of something Roz has said on more than one occasion about launching into a long season of worry before remembering to take her petition to God. I can be that way as well. I admire folks who unfailingly turn to God first in anticipation that God will answer in some way (Kay Layne comes to mind). A second thought on prayer we have discussed in Transformers was brought on by the Upper Room contributor. We often do not anticipate God will answer our prayer in any way other than how we imagine or desire it be answered.…
