John 14:1-7

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.”

Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”

Philippians 4:7

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

The verses above from John 14 have always been very comforting to me. There was a time in my life when I was very much afraid of dying. I am thinking about the years when my children were tiny. The thought of leaving them as children was unbearable to me. So I leaned on these verses to remind me that whatever happened, we would all be together one day. Jesus said it, and I believe it. Now I know the same truth, and it is even more comforting. “No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Holy Lord, help me to stay on your path through the rest of my time on this earth. Hold my family close, I pray, and help them to find their way to you if they haven’t already. Thank you for loving us first, so that we could love others. Amen

John 14:1-7. Philippians 4:7

Jesus’ words in John 14:1-7 are to offer comfort and hope to the disciples as he knows what is going to happen. He is preparing them for a new future without him. Paul says that God’s peace is like a guard offering protection in the midst of anxiety or chaos. It is at these times we need to turn worry into prayer. It is prayer that offers us peace in all situations.

Prayer: Gracious God, in all situations remind me to offer prayer first instead of worry. AMEN

Peace To guide Our heart

(focus Communities Facing Hurricanes

Today’s Reading John 14:1-7

Philippians 4:7

And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

There are over 100 Bible verses about ETERNAL LIFE the most recognized would be John 3: 16.  Philippians 4:7 explains that we are not meant to carry the weight of this modern world alone.. God provides the peace that challenges human logic and guides us against any modern turmoil. Turning  our anxieties over to God opens the door for His unbelievable calm to take over. No one, especially those who do not know God will be able to understand this  peace. It…

John 14:1-7 / Philippians 4:7

As I read this passage in John, I’m thinking about how my mom would carefully prepare the room I would be in when I visited. She was sure to straighten the room, make sure there was ample room on the dresser for my personal items and assure that there were clean linens on the bed, windows open and a nice cool breeze flowing through the room. This is an extremely comforting memory and was a comfort to anticipate when I planned any visit. Just like the room my mom carefully prepared in her home, so too does Jesus prepare a room for me in God’s house. What a profound comfort this is. Knowing there i…

John 14:1-7/Philippians 4:7

Jesus told His disciples, “I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” During Holy Communion we affirm in the mystery of faith, “Christ will come again.” It is in this assurance we find ”the peace of God, which transcends all understanding.” This morning’s Upper Room contributor reminds us this is not simply a matter of waiting and enduring. We can experience that peace in the here and now as long as anticipate and experience our Savior’s presence in the storms of life.

Prayer - Lord Jesus, we struggle with the paradox of now and not yet. Please help us be aware of and celebrate Your presence…
