Titus 3:1-8

Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and always to be gentle toward everyone.

At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone.

Matthew 7:20

“Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.”

There are many things we can do each day to show God’s love to others. After all, we are each and every one of us filled with God’s love and mercies. Sometimes it feels easier to keep to ourselves and focus on our day-to-day responsibilities. But when we have the thought/opportunity/chance to do something helpful for someone, we should snatch it up, and thank God. Through my adult life, I have been a working person. Because of being so busy, I developed the bad habit of guarding my “free time”. Ironically, this would lead to wasted time when I avoided making plans. I have learned to fight this tendency, and it is not so much of an issue anymore. God has shown me that when I choose to spend time with others, it is time well-spent. And time serving others is even better spent.

Holy Lord, thank you for opening doors for me. May I walk through them without hesitating. Amen

The kindness of others

(Focus: those who live alone

Matthew 7:20

Thus you will recognize them by their fruits.

The ability to recognize true from false is a theme throughout Scripture, which advises believers to test the spirits to see whether they are from God. This concern is so crucial for keeping the Christian faith, as false teachings can lead believers astray. Again I am going to refer back to one of my most favorite sayings, that people may forget what you said, and what you did but they will never forget how you made them feel. I truly believe that the way we treat people in our lives is very important to God.,I would be…

Titus 3:1-8. Matthew 7:20.

We recently toured the Great Smokey Mountain National Park. On one of our tours, we heard a story that was similar to today's devotion. Country Singer, Dolly Parton was brought up in the mountains. Her hometown is Pigeon Forge where we stayed. Some may know of her many philanthropic deeds, but this was my favorite. Many elderly livePr in the hills away from the towns. She provides transportation to bring them to town regularly. They have a chance to socialize, received medical services, and they are given food and other items they may need. She knew how bad isolation can be for the elderly. Some may say, well she can afford to be th…

Titus 4:1-8/Matthew 7:20

Just like Tom,the first thing I thought about is the state our world and of our country right now. We need love and kindness more than ever and I truly hope that it prevails. What I can do is focus on kindness and love for others, to seek opportunities to serve not only in my church but in my community. We are entering the season of thanksgiving and of holiday giving. I hope for myself, as well as for others, to go forward and make every season a season of thankfulness, giving, service and love.

Dear God, please make me an instrument of Your love in every season. Amen

Titus 3:1-8/Matthew 7:20

The Titus passage could have been written today as it applies to so much that is going on around us. Peaceable, considerate and generous are qualities we need to recapture, but remain obscured by all the acrimony, malice, envy and hate that envelops our polarized society. Believers must take on the mantle of the kindness and love of God, sharing God’s washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit. It is we who must devote ourselves to doing what is good, excellent and profitable for everyone. It is by our fruit that we will be recognized as instruments of peace and reconciliation, set apart from the constant barrage of discontent, intolerance, rage and violence of this…
