A Daily Devotion for Wednesday, May 18

Romans 10:17

Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.

This verse is reminding me: I hear from God each and every time I read His Word. Listening for God and listening to God are things I can experience every day. God may not answer my prayers or my questions directly, or immediately. Sometimes that can feel as if He is not hearing me. But when we read his Word, we will hear from Him, in some way, at some time.

Lord above, I thank you for providing us with so many answers, because we have so many questions. Help us to hear you, and to recognize when you respond to our concerns. Help us to be thankful. Amen

Romans 10:17

So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

I start out each morning with a scripture lesson from God’s word. And when it comes time to hear God’s voice I must be quiet, I must make time and have faith. JER 29:13 says “that you will find God when you seek Him with your whole heart”. I can’t be halfhearted when it comes to listen for his word. he promises that I will find him if I seek him. He is waiting for us to call on him and talk with him about every aspect of our life. He wants to hear that we need him and love him a…

Romans 10:17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.

Focus on Jesus and you will hear all you need to know about following Him. The messages that Jesus provided to us through the Bible are the messages that will lead us to eternal life. Sometimes listening is not easy. I attempt to listen, and I do not hear. I know that my faith is strong, and I believe in Jesus, but my thoughts seem to intervene, and I miss what Jesus is saying. I have to work on my mediating skills so that I hear all that Jesus has to say to me.

Dearest Lord, I find that my thoughts…

Romans 10:17 So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the good news about Christ. In Paul’s day, spreading the good news about Jesus meant speaking directly to the people. There was no Bible available to tell them the story and many, many people could not read or write. It was by listening to Paul and others who spread the good news, that so many came to faith. What about us today? I think this verse is telling us to spread the good news to others. We have our Bibles. We know the story, but many do not. We can spread the good news just by our example and/or by our words. Both are important. Prayer: gracious God may I spread the go…

Romans 10:17

This verse was quoted in the talk I attended last night. A vivid demonstration of the power of the Word is its capacity to produce faith as the Holy Spirit influences the reader. This is the primary reason that Scripture should be the foundation of what we teach, preach and the way we live our lives. When Scripture is considered “a human book chronicling humanity’s search for God,” the position of many modern theologians and some seminaries, we are obviously not listening to God.

Prayer - All-knowing God, Your Word is a lamp into my feet and a light into my path. May I always look to Your Word as the definitive authority on living the Christian life,…
