James 5:13-16
Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.
This passage from James encourages us to be active in our faith. It is one thing to ask for prayer or to assure a friend we will pray for them, but it is another thing to stop right then and there, and speak to God. I love the wisdom of, “Got a minute?”
Already today I put this into practice, and hope that I can continue to do so. The courage it will take me to actually say those words to another, and to say a prayer in their presence, will help me to grow in Christ, as well.
Holy Lord, may your Spirit encourage me to act on my promise to pray for someone suffering or in need. Amen

GOT A MINUTE
( focus: people needing my prayers.
Today’s reading James 13-16
James 5:16
Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
The author in the upper room this morning gave a profound answer when asked to pray for someone else. “ Got a minute” is a powerful answer to anyone who is asking for prayer. Our job is to pray..... to pray with care and intent. ( we don’t need eloquent words and phrases) The one who needs all the details is God and He already knows…
James 5:13-16
This is an oft-quoted passage from what has become one of my favorite books of the Bible. James is more about action than he is about doctrine. It is a book that puts hands and feet on the complex doctrine laid out by Paul. “Be doers of the word.” Those are words to live by. When it comes to prayer, James is spot on. Paul says, “Pray without ceasing,” and we get discouraged. How can we do that? James says be always ready to pray in the moment and we have an epiphany. I long ago memorized verse 16 from the KJV, “The fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” We should be willing to live that…
