A Daily Devotion for Wednesday, April 19

Psalm 42:1-2

As the deer pants for streams of water,

so my soul pants for you, my God.

My souls thirsts for God, for the living God.

When can I go and meet with God?

I love these words which remind me we were created in a very specific way. We were created to seek out God, to need Him and to want a relationship with Him. It is natural for us to seek God, and when we know we are with Him, we are peaceful. I sometimes think about other options for us, as God's creation; what are some of the ways God could have chosen to create mankind? We are just as God wanted us to be, and part of our "being" is to seek Him.

Holy One, thank-you for creating me to seek you out, and to long for you. This keeps me on the right track, and encourages me. I am grateful. Amen

Psalm 42: one– two

So much of these verses remind me of the 23rd psalm. With the Lord, we have all we need. He leads me to the peaceful stream. I am not afraid because he is close to me. His love assures me I will spend all my days with him. It is my relationship with God that fills all my needs and brings me peace.

Prayer: gracious God, Your words bring so much comfort. Amen

Psalm 42:1-2

As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?

God has promised that he will never leave me or forsake me . In the midst of any and all situations I may find my self in, I know I can trust this promise from God. Times are hard, and times are getting harder, but the Lord never changes. God alone is the only One that can satisfy You and I. He alone can protect our heart and mind from the deep deception that is coming on the earth. Let me follo…

Psalm 42:1-2

St. Augustine wrote, ”You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it rests on you.” It is easy to imagine Augustine had Psalm 42 in mind when this was written. Once we realize that God feeds our soul every bit as much as food feeds our bodies, our soul hunger will not be met by anything else. We will be able to appreciate what we discussed last night - doing little things with great love - as soul food that strengthens our relationship with our Creator, Redeemer and Sustainer.

Prayer - Loving God, guide me to meet You today in the little things. Let Living Bread and Living Water feed my soul…
