2 Corinthians 10:5

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

Paul is describing how we wage war, in contrast to how the world wages war. Again this seems helpful when struggling with doubts, or when faced with forces that are attempting to hold down or limit our faith. For me, the only way to combat these forces is to ask God to help me. I can't "think" my way through doubts. I need to remember the Holy Spirit is right here with me, ready to help. If I can remember this, all of my decisions can involve God and are more likely to keep me on the right path.

Holy Lord, you are with me for every decision I need to make. Help me remember to listen for you, and not rely on my own thoughts and emotions in the moment. You are full of grace. Amen

2Corinthians 10:5

Indecision, trust, faith and doubt and what to do about them—that sums up this week’s readings. I think indecision and doubting are much the same. What is left is for us to trust God’s ways and keep our faith strong—eyes on the prize so to speak. Easier said than done sometimes. We must always trust our own faith and the Holy Spirit within us to win these battles.

Prayer: Gracious God, May my trust and faith in you cure my doubting and indecision. Amen

2 Corinthians 10:5

We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.

God has a full life planned for us but Satan seeks to destroy it in every way possible by his lies that we believe, because he knows our thoughts determine our actions, making us IN this sinful world not OF it. These words by Paul should always be first in our minds. These thinkings are sabotaged by Satan when we believe him. The only way mighty enough to destroy those lies is God’s word, because his words are truth. When we study it, know it, believe it, obey it and speak i…

2 Corinthians 10:5 What seems like a perfectly sensible and simple way to counteract indecision is, in practice, more difficult than it seems. It takes discipline to take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. All our “what ifs” and “what abouts” would seem less threatening when we trust that God is with us. The Holy Spirit, God living in us, is the proof. Learning to act on that truth to let it guide our thought life is part of our Christian task.

Prayer - Patient Lord, when my thoughts become jumbled and confused, please cut through the mess with Holy Spirit power, so that I may capture every thought to make it obedient to Christ. Amen
