A Daily Devotion for Tuesday, Nov. 15

I Corinthians 10:13

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

I am thinking about AA and the concept of one being powerless over alcohol. I know this idea bothers some people. They would like to be able to control their cravings on their own. Ultimately, of course, we do make the decision to either succumb to temptation or to walk away. But with God's help, we can be assured there is always a way out or a way around our temptation. Sometimes stopping to ask God for direction is just what is needed.

Holy Father, why do I "forget" to turn to you when I am tempted? I know you will help me out, and show me another way. I want to be a better person, more faithful, more obedient. Thank-you for being with me, always. Amen

Everyone on earth is tempted, no one is exempt. The promise that God made to all, is that no temptation will ever be more then we can bear. It is through His grace that we will find a way to endure all temptations. These promises bring consolation and comfort to all who believe. God’s grace will be sufficient to deal with all temptations and challenges in our life’s.

1 Corinthians 10:13

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

This verse means that the strength of the temptations I face will equal the same strength God gives me to resist them.( is my faith strong enough) I think people misinterpret this verse to mean that God will not give us anything that we can‘t handle. God is still for us. He loves us. He is not waiting for us to fail; He is ready to help us. One…

I Corinthians 10:13

The Christian is called to live a transformed life, freed from the power of sin. Will we be sinless? No. Even this hopeful verse states, “except what is common to mankind.” The promise we are given is that when faced with a choice that could lead to sin, there will always be an escape route. The Spirit cannot make us take it, but it will always be there. As we grow in faith and in becoming more like Jesus we learn more as to how to recognize and use the exit ramp before us.

Prayer - Father, Son, Spirit, lead me not into temptation and deliver me from evil. Amen
