John 14:27
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
These words from Jesus are beautiful, but if we do not have faith, they are not helpful. Because it is our faith which leads to our turning to Jesus, and praying for peace. There may be times when our hearts are troubled, and we may not feel that peace. What is happening then? Giving up our troubles to God is not always easy. We want to take charge ourselves and fix things. But that may not be in our power. So, having the faith in Jesus to hand over our anxieties and worries is where our power lies. We can hand over our worries and anxieties and ask for peace. I believe this always bears fruit, even if not immediately.
Holy Lord, you know what is on my heart today. I pray for that peace you have promised. Amen

Matthew 8:23-27. John 14:27
The love the title for the readings today--"give it to God." How often I have advised others to Give it to God. But when someone, even my inner self, suggests it to me, I have some "buts." But he's not listening, or not understanding. And yet, if I have any hope for peace, I need to put the buts away and "give it to God." I need to fall back on my faith and trust in God and know he is listening and so must I.
Prayer: Gracious God, I know my peace depends on you. I need to stop trying to control everything and "give it to you." AMEN

Give it to God

John 14:27 (NIV)
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
Just like the lady in the upper room this morning, I have been a Jesus believer but still have trouble giving my concerns to Him. Faith requires belief in something that cannot be seen, touched, or proven through experiment.. Experiencing hardships, loss, and unanswered prayers can significantly challenge our faith, leading to questioning or doubt about the goodness, power, or presence of God. I know it is important to recognize that my struggling with faith…
John 14:27
The peace of Christ can be elusive in this fallen world. The author of this morning’s reflection opened with Jesus’ calming of the storm from Matthew’s gospel. My faith tells me Jesus can directly step in to calm the storms of life, but my experience can lead to impatience and doubt. I need to find the discipline and confidence to wait on the Lord as well as the hope and trust to believe the peace of Christ will prevail over evil.
Prayer - Jesus, Lord, Savior, Prince of peace, Life’s storms are raging and I seek Your peace. I understand and accept You do not give as the world gives or according to our timetables, yet I find…
