Mark 9:24
Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”
Sometimes we really do need to see to believe. But Jesus asks us over and over to believe in Him without needing to see everything ourselves. If everyone waited for concrete, measurable, repeatable proof from God, there would not be many believers. God requires us to use our hearts and minds to look for him and listen for him. Our belief in the existence of God is one step, but faith in Him to deliver on his promises is another step. God loves us and does not want us to be miserable or to suffer. He is here for us, but we need to believe and to be patient and watchful.
Holy Lord, I am thankful for the peace you send my way. Help me to never doubt, and when there is unbelief, wash it away. I am yours. Amen

JESUS, OUR HEALER
( Focus those awaiting organ transplants)
Mark 9:24
Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, “I believe; help my unbelief!”
This is a very natural, human response because it expresses a very common experience of faith and doubt. Many have had this type of response, and God understands it entirely. He doesn’t condemn those who have it, but rather lovingly answers their prayer in His timing and in His own way. Expressing a desire for stronger faith while acknowledging doubt is an honest approach to humility and willingness to grow in faith. It shows a willingness to be vulnerable and depend on God's grace. Jesus made it very clear that…
Mark 9:14-24
While I do believe, I will admit to sometimes having doubts. Maybe, like Thomas, I need to see to believe. Prayer is so important at times like this. Really being able to turn things over to God and believe the problem is in good hands and the knowledge that a solution will come sometime seems important. Once I do that, I can concentrate on prayer and belief.
Prayer: Gracious God, Forgive my doubts, I do believe. AMEN
Mark 9:24
Prayer is extremely powerful, I believe this to be so. By the blessing of the faith instilled in me, in my worst and darkest moments, I have turned to prayer. Most times when I have turned to prayer a sense of calm washes over me, knowing that this is the last and sometimes only action I need to take when I am struggling. As I get older, I know that my faith and prayers will sustain me through whatever lies ahead.
Dear Lord, thank you for the gift of prayer. As I pray, Your presence is felt each and every time. I am grateful for Your listening ear not only for my prayers, but for the prayers of…
Mark 9:24
Watching your own child go through trials and suffering is a gut-wrenching test of faith. The father of the stricken boy in today’s reading lived with this curse for years it seems. He claimed to have faith, but admitted his doubts in the face of his son’s persistent suffering. Jesus erased the man’s doubts by healing his son, though in the immediate aftermath of the healing the boy appeared to be dead. As a parent I must remember Jesus’ words when any of my children are in distress. “This kind can only come out through prayer.” (Mk 9:29) Whatever else I need to do in these circumstances, prayer must be at the top of the list.
Prayer -…
