Luke 17:11-19
Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!”
When he saw them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed.
One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan.
Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?” Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.”
I say “thank-you” automatically and frequently. I am sure I say it to many people, many times each day. But do I say it often enough to God? God is the ultimate giver of all things! It takes practice to remember to give thanks to God. He is responsible for each and every thing which affects my life. He is responsible for the outcome of my prayers, answered now, being answered, being considered or set aside. Giving thanks to God brings me closer to him, when I am able to recognize his hand in my life.
Holy Lord, I am truly thankful that your hand is in all that happens - to me, near me, around me, and in the world. I am thankful for answered prayers, for my health, for my family, and your guidance in their lives. I am yours. Amen

Luke 17:11-19
Heartfelt gratitude matters. It makes my relationship with God fuller. God doesn’t need my gratitude, but he does take note, it shows where my heart is. In my younger years, I thought there was so much that I needed to have, a new car, a better apartment, more clothes, another vacation, etc. Now that I am a senior, I find that my needs and my wants have moved very close together. The gap is so much narrower. Materially, I have all I will need. Emotionally, my cup is full, a loving husband, happy and successful children, beautiful and thriving grandchildren and a God who loves me. Spiritually, God gives me the opportunity to grow every day and to…
Luke 17:11-19 Stop and Give Thanks
It is currently 80 degrees ot and I should be outside enjoying it. Instead, I'm complaining because the wind is blowing so hard, I couldn't lunch outside. Even just sitting outside trying to read was impossible. What good is a beautiful day if you can't enjoy it?! It really is a lovely day and I should be thankful for 80 in May in NH. I does't happen that often and I'm sure many others are happy, smiling, and enjoying it. Today's thought for the day fits me today--Giving thanks even when I don' feel grateful, teaches me gratitude.
Prayer: Gracious God, many thanks for this wonderful day after a long, cold winter. I mu…

STOP TO GIVE THANKS
(Focus to give thanks for what I have
Today’s Reading Luke 17:11-19 give thanks instead of complaining
.
Luke 17:16
And he fell on his face at Jesus' feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan.
Just as earthly parents expect their children to depend on them for food, direction, and care, God created us to rely on Him in every area of our lives. He is not surprised by our needs or overwhelmed by our weaknesses. Instead, He invites us to come to him, confident that His grace and power are more than sufficient to meet us in every circumstance. Through Jesus, I find the strength and help I need. .…
Luke 17:11-19
This morning’s Upper Room contributor made an interesting distinction that is worth remembering. Gratitude and giving thanks are not the same thing. It is easy to give thanks when one experiences a blessing and thus gratitude. Scripture emphasizes giving thanks in all things, even when gratitude is not what we are feeling at the time. To put it in terms that the contributor used: my knees hurt this morning, but I am able to walk and go to the gym today. If I can cultivate a general attitude of gratitude, then giving thanks will become a habit rather than an event.
Prayer - Gracious God, let me begin the day with thanksgiving for blessings received and blessings to…
