Romans 5: 1-11

verses 6-8: You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this; while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

God’s love is so complicated but at the same time so simple. It is the kind of love which gives up everything in order to save another. Like a good mother who is willing to sacrifice for her young, God went to the cross for us. What do I do with this kind of love? How does it change me? If I remember more often just how undeserving of this I truly am, maybe I can be some kind of an example to others. I can be more grateful, more patient, more generous, good-natured (I better stop while I have some hope of following through). :o)

Holy One, May your love change each of us for the better. Help us to never forget. Your love is woven through us, and is the energy we need in order to do your work. Amen

Paul tells us that we will experience difficulties, pain and tragedy, but God knows this and he is helping us through these tribulations by perseverance, character and hope. God sent Jesus to die for us, not because we were that good, but because …

Romans 5:1 - “Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,”

Assurance of faith need not be as illusive as we tend to imagine. Once we have recognized our sinfulness and need of a savior, then place our hope and faith in Jesus, we are “justified.” Paul writes this brings us peace with God. We are free to work to become more Christ-like in our daily lives. Whatever progress we make or don’t make in that area, if our heart is right with God we are assured of our salvation. Relax, it is that easy.

Prayer - God of peace, help each and every person know that the pathway to peace…
