A Daily Devotion for Tuesday, June 3

Psalm 126:5

Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy.

When I read this scripture verse, I think about the resilience of the human heart when God lives within it. How often are we filled with sadness or fear or worry when we go to God? And how often do we find courage and direction through our prayer and scripture reading? To me, it is a small miracle each and every time God heals my heart and wakes me up feeling joyful. Psalm 30:5 reminds us: “…weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.”

Holy Lord, this thing you do in my heart, over and over, feeds my faith and belief. I am so thankful for your active presence in and through my life. Amen

Psalm 126:5

It is only natural to want some validation of our work. Just look at all the trophies and awards the world offers. For myself, however, when people make much of something I've done, I am often embarased. When we are using the talents that God gave us, we do it in his name. The only time I call attention to what I do, is because I hope others might want to learn to do it also. I really loved the last paragraph of todays devotion. This is how I feel.

Prayer: Gracious God, May I simply live my life trying to be your hands and feet. AMEN

Psalm 126:5

Those who sow in tears shall reap with shouts of joy!

I think that those who have had to shed many tears in their life are often those without faith and devotion to Christ. They allow their circumstances to make them bitter. They must choose to trust God , he is in complete control and He is eternal. Since He is not bound by time, He can see the whole picture all at once. He would love to tell them don’t give up just because they can’t see what God has planned for them. In my own  life I keep looking to God,…

Psalm 126:5

Despite all the joy we may have in our lives sometimes we feel burdened with worry or trials. We must trust that God will always be there to meet our needs and hear our prayers. The Upper Room writer’s thought for the day talks about a life of service, I try to live a life that has purpose and shares God’s love, whether that be volunteer work in the community or my church, lending a hand to a friend or even just providing emotional support for someone in need. I hope I do this without focus on reward or recognition. The comfort of living a caring and love filled life that pleases God and the joy this brin…

Psalm 126:5

We sometimes look at others’ lives and from our singular perspective they look like everything is always going smoothly while we are lurching from one problem to another. It is likely closer to the truth that all of us face peaks and valleys, but for those who have the trust and hope provided by faith are the ones who emerge from tears to songs of joy. Life can be hard, but God is always good, knows our limits and provides what we need, when we need it. What God does for others is between them and God and should never be compared with our own relationship with and gifts from God. Every once in awhile, like the writer…
