James 3:13
Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.
I am struck by those last five words: “humility that comes from wisdom.” Some people no doubt think of humility as weakness. But this verse points out the true source of humility. When I struggle with and ultimately accept the sovereignty of God- when I have that wisdom, I can claim humility. I know how small and powerless I am without Him.
Father God, help me to be humble in all that I do and say. You are my Lord, and I am your servant. Amen

James 3:13
Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. Humility is being honest with myself, about everything, my own worth—see myself as God sees me. In fact, simple honesty leads to humility. Through humility, I know exactly who I am, what I am good at, and what I may not be totally good at. And that leads to wisdom. Wisdom is not something that I can just put in my mind. I am beginning to understand that wisdom is not how much we know but how we conduct ourselves in everyday life. True wisdom comes from God through grace. Jesus Christ is the only one that personified true godly wisdom. I learn how to be humble and wise following in Jesus’ footsteps.
Dearest Lord, thank you for sending your Son to us to help us learn how to live. The wisdom and humility we saw in all that He did is so powerful. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
James 3:13
How many random people would answer the question, “What constitutes the good life?” with “Deeds done in humility.” I am constantly confronted with just how countercultural the genuine Christian life can be. The differences are so stark that people should be able to spot us a mile away. Do I meet that standard? If the time comes when Christianity is illegal, would I be arrested? More importantly, would there be enough evidence to convict?
Prayer - God of wisdom, help me to life the good life Your way, through deeds done in humility. Amen
