Luke 18:1-8
Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. He said: “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought. And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.’
“For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually come and attack me!’”
And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”
James 5:17-18
Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops.
It is sometimes difficult for me to pray, I will admit. When there are seemingly no results, when things remain murky and problematic, it is difficult to continue asking God for help- especially when we know we may never receive or recognize an answer to our prayer. How does one hold on to their faith?
I suppose sometimes I hold on to my faith because the alternative is unthinkable. I could simply not live without my faith in God. Without God, I am nothing. I know this to be true. So, since through his written Word, God tells us to pray, and reassures us over and over that he hears our prayers, I will continue to pray.
Holy Lord, I am so thankful for the Scripture you have left for your creation to follow. Through your Word we are able to know how you would have us live. Help me to be certain of the power of prayer, so that I do not let up. You know that my heart seeks you, always. Amen

Luke 18:1-8. James 5:17-18. Keep Praying
Thought for the day: I will pray and trust God with the outcome.
In reality it is not the praying that is hard, it is the trusting and waiting for results. We are a result driven society so unless prayers are answered quickly we begin to wonder and question why. Did you hear me? Do you care? Is my prayer not worthy? What else can I do? Do we really think we can get better results than our God? Our impatience and lack of trust are the problem.
Prayer: Gracious God, strengthen my trust in your timing of answered prayer. AMEN
Luke 18:1-8 / James 5:17-18
Jesus instructs us to always pray and not give up. This kind of perseverance can be difficult sometimes. As we’ve talked about so many time in Transformers, we struggle with the timing and sometimes the answer. When I pray, I must remember the delay or if an answer is not what I want, it is not indifference. God’s plan, quite simply is God’s plan. I refuse to give up hope and will continue to express my faith through continued prayer.
Heavenly Father, help me to persevere with confidence and trust in You. Amen.

KEEP PRAYING
(Focus: those who pray for me
Today’s Reading…. Luke 17:1-8
James 5:17-18
Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth. Then he prayed again, and heaven gave rain, and the earth bore it’s fruit
Each time Elijah prayed to God he was also aware of what God has promised in His Word. That promise is the only reason for our confidence in asking. Such confidence is not from within our own ability but it is given and supported by what God has said in Scripture. This is why we…
Luke 18:1-8/Luke 18:1-8
Calls to frequent and persistent prayer appear throughout Scripture. I admit that there are days where prayer feels little more than a pointless effort in futility. Nevertheless, prayer is a command of God, practiced and taught by Jesus. As the Christian life should be one of obedience, I will continue to pray. I pray in the confidence that God is attentive to the prayers of His people and in the knowledge that God is sovereign in all things.
Prayer - Creator God, Almighty Sovereign of the universe, I offer my prayers to You this day and everyday as an act of worshipful obedience. I will never fully understand your ways in this life, but will always trust…
