A Daily Devotion for Tuesday, February 17

Matthew 6:25-30

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?“

James 1:5

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

I cannot take an ounce of credit for the success of Tom’s gardens each year. I am simply here to enjoy the food. But this last Fall, when the first hard frost was predicted, it was “all hands on deck” for an hour or so to pick all the veggies that we could find. I don’t know how Tom felt that day, to see all of that produce, most of it green and unripe. I was overwhelmed, and countless times was tempted to shove a mountain of green cherry tomatoes into the trash to make some room on the counter. But for Tom, it was a learning experience. He pored over books to find ways to eat green veggies- mostly tomatoes. Very few veggies went to waste. God knows Tom is a faithful steward of His blessings. I can learn from this example of God’s abundant provision.

Holy Lord, you always provide, and often in wild abundance. I need to be more aware of this, and less focused on what I think I ‘need.’ Amen

Matthew 6:25-30. James 1:5

From The Message: If you don't know what you are doing, pray to the Father. He Loves to help. . . . . . Ask boldly, believeingly, (I love this word) without hesitation. Stop trying to figure everything out by yourself. Don't wait to ask for help only when nothing is working out the way you want. Learn to turn to him first! Remember, He loves to help.

Prayer: Gracious God, I do know to seek your help first, but I am often impatient in my listening for you, even as I believe you are there listening to me. AMEN

THE CROCUS

((Focus those feeling stuck

Today’s reading Matthew 25-30

James 1:5

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault , and it will be given him.

Jesus says not to worry about food or clothes. God feeds the birds and clothes the lilies beautifully, but His children are far more valuable than these. Anxiety can't add even an hour to a person's life. Instead, Jesus tells His followers to trust GOD and he will provide for all of our needs. When we worry it shows a lack of trust in God’s promise to provide. Faith  eliminates worry and brings peace by trusting  in God’s word.…

Matthew 6:25-30 James 1:5

God knows what I need. I need to be better about putting my trust in God instead of worrying constantly. It’s OK to plan, to work and to save, but it does not mean to live in fear of not having enough, God takes the burden of worry from me.

Dear God, please help me to always put You first, to do what is right in your eyes and trust in You always. Amen
