A Daily Devotion for Tuesday, February 10

Jeremiah 29:11-13

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

Jeremiah reminds us that God has a plan for each and every one of us. Sometimes we lose sight of God’s will, but He never loses sight of us. God is with us, through every struggle, through 20 years of alcoholic drinking, through 70 years of captivity, through any and every diagnosis or loss, He is there, loving us, ready to pour out his strength for us.

Lord God, I am so thankful for your faithfulness. Great is thy faithfulness, amen.

Jeremiah 29:11-13

I often hear people declare--God, what is your plan for me? Well, all we know is that he has them. The most important part of this verse is that his plans include peace and hope. If your life seems a disaster, remember that is not his plan and he wants to help you work your way out. There is lots of help out there and he will lead you if you listen to what he says. I've seen this story in my own family and I've seen when you finally surrender, God can capture you and lead you to that hope and peace he offers.

Prayer: Gracious God, You've answered so many of my prayers. i am forev…

Sometimes life doesn’t look the way I would like it too or the way I expect. How many times have I uttered, “I didn’t see that coming”?…I have lost count. God‘s plans are not willy nilly, they are intentional. Just because I wait for what seems to be an endless period of time, it doesn’t mean that I am forgotten. It’s about God‘s care over the long haul.

Dear God, please help me to feel your presence as I wait, please help me to be patient with your plan. Amen.

Today’s reading : Jeremiah 29:11-13

Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

This promise was given to the Israelites living in exile in Babylon. They were far from home, discouraged, and facing long term hardships. God spoke these words to reassure them their suffereing would not last forever.  Even today, we cling to these verses because we find encouragement in the thought that God has good intentions for us even if we are suffering. We are encouraged when we know that God hears our prayers. We are…

Jeremiah 29:11-13

The first part of this passage is well-known as an inspirational boost, but the second part reminds us we are not merely passive recipients of God’s plan. As this morning’s Upper Room contributor, and countless others who have been delivered from idols and demons that possessed them, have learned, we all have an active role to play. To partner with God for the hope and future planned for us we must call on and come and pray to God who has promised to listen. If we will seek God with all our heart, the door is opened for God’s plans to prosper and not harm us. Without God, we can do nothing.

Prayer - Almighty and benevolent God,…
