Matthew 5:6
"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled."
This morning I am getting tangled up in definitions and splitting hairs. The meaning of this verse can change a little, I think, depending on how it is read. Is Jesus addressing those who seek a righteous life, or those who seek to treat others with justice and righteousness? Or, are these two interpretations ultimately saying the same thing? I know I need to think daily about treating people fairly and equally, and I have the opportunity to get better at that in my work.
Holy Lord, help me to treat everyone I meet fairly, and without any preconceived opinions or biases. May your Holy Spirit guide me in this. Amen

We never know what others may be going through. It costs nothing to be kind and caring. Sometimes we see the outer appearance of others and have biases and preconceived ideas of who that person may be. They maybe just the person that needs us to take another look and see that they too are searching for justice in a world where justice is not always found. We need to put biases and notions out of the way so we can see and care for others.
Dear God help us to see the good in others despite their circumstances. Open our hearts to be more caring and kind to those who have been raised in different cultures and have different…
Matthew 5:6
God blesses those who hunger and thirst for Justice for they will be satisfied.
When I learned this verse, oh so many years ago, justice was “righteousness,” and satisfied was “filled.” I like justice because I understand it better than righteousness. Although, to do the right thing and fight for justice are similar. It is an important verse and I hope I am filled!
Prayer: gracious God, I do wish your words were clearer to me. I know time changes meanings, but not what you want from me or your love for me. Amen

Matthew 5:6
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
I believe that when we hunger and thirst for righteousness we have not totally repented of our sins, The first step toward having that need satisfied is turning to Jesus and taking those steps to strive for forgiveness. Once someone has started that relationship with Jesus by repenting of their sins, turning away from evil, and submitting one’s life to the Lord by accepting the death and resurrection of Jesus who paid the price of their sins, they begin a new life. The Word of God - the Bible - is a source for hunger and thirst. Prayer is …
Matthew 5:6 The paradox of “now, but not yet” is talked of often in theology. This verse strikes me as an example. There are many in our world who hunger and thirst for righteousness, whether it be on the giving or receiving end. Nevertheless, so many forces at work in the world push back and heap injustice and anything but righteousness on all who refuse to bend to the whims and fashions of the times. In little ways that hunger and thirst for righteousness is met in the here and now, and this indeed honors God. The hunger and thirst will never be truly filled until our world is redeemed by Christ’s return. This is not pessimism, but a reason to…
