I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through him who gives me strength.
I had not been thinking about patience as a fruit of the Spirit. These verses remind me of how I need God even to help me while I wait for Him! Patience is knowing God is in ultimate control. I do have free will, but need God to dwell in me. When I have the Spirit, I can endure and wait for whatever is in my future. True patience is a gift from God, a fruit of the Spirit.
Heavenly Father, I know I can be more patient, because I know your Spirit lives in me. I will be more mindful of this. Amen

As a much younger man I was, for a season, deceived contentment came in earthly packages. That is no more and once the spiritual dots were gradually connected a genuine sense of contentment is not as illusive as it was when trying to chase it on my own materialistic terms.

And the peace of God which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. These verses are so calming and relaxing. They read like a lullaby . They give my heart positive reinforcement . The Word of God is so very powerful, especially when it can be easily understood. I am learning which verses heal a broken heart,(Psalm 34:18) gives me energy and strength ;(Philippians 4:13) when I have been weary and worn ( Galatians 6:9) and those he let’s into my soul to help calm my fears. I think of how often I am discontent with the way things are going here in the United States and around the world. I find myself being so angry at what this country is being shaped to become. I know for me this is a natural feeling and that I just need to do what I have to do to make myself happy and content, even though I fear the results. It will take patience…

don’t worry about anything: instead pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God‘s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
I have always been a worrier, but also a prayer. It does work! There is a piece to be found when you turn things over to God. Being a person who likes to be in control, this was a hard lesson. It took a while to realize that worrying only brought more worry and frustration. To share your worries with God brings some relief. There is so much in our lives…
