1 Corinthians 3:7
So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.
Tom is what I would describe as an avid gardener. Every year, beginning in the dead of winter, he begins to plan for the next season. Seeds, equipment, basement workroom, all are planned, ordered, organized, or documented and put in their proper place. (Thankfully the compost does not arrive until the Spring) The gardens are planted in the Spring and slowly they come to life. But every year there is a surprise or two, or more. One vegetable will grow in abundance, another may not show up at all. Certain flowers will take over and dazzle us, while something else we expected will not show up, or will struggle. This is humbling work, I think, and reminds us of who is in control. God makes things grow. This includes people. We can give and give, and pray to God, but only He can make things grow and change.
Holy Lord, please hear my prayers. Help me to do my part and leave the rest to you. Help me to trust in you. Amen

God’s faithfulness
Gratitude for God’s faithfulness
Corinthians 3:7
So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth.
While human effort is important, ultimately, it is God who brings about growth and success in all areas of life, including the garden. Do I get the credit for a beautiful flower garden? Did I use the right soil and fertilizer? Is it my experience and hard work? Or does a credit go to the nursery that sold me the plants? Regular watering? The truth is that it's a combination of all these that makes for a successful garden. Only God gives the growth. I must remember that it is…
1 Corinthians 3:7 The metaphor of planting, watering and nurturing seeds is frequently used in Scripture. Jesus’ parable of the sower may well have been in Paul’s mind when he reminded the Corinthians who ultimately makes all things, from a mustard seed to our faith, grow and hopefully thrive. Paul may have overstated his case in dismissing those who plant and water, however. Part of our role as believers is to be those who plant and water, even if we never get the blessing of seeing a harvest.
Prayer - God who makes all things grow, help us be effective sowers of Your Word, Your precepts and most importantly, Your love. Be with our sister, Bev, this day as she undergoes…
