Ecclesiastes 3:1,8

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:

a time to love and a time to hate,

a time for war and a time for peace.

Today is Thanksgiving! Right now it is very difficult for me to consider war. When I think about nations at war this very minute, I am struck with the day after day aspect of these conflicts. It must feel like “a time for peace” will never come. But even though there are very real and very painful events in our lives, including wars, God is always the same: loving and full of grace. Today, I give thanks to God for the peace we have in our nation. And I give thanks to God for all of his many blessings. May all of God’s people, everywhere, know peace. May today be a time for peace everywhere. Amen

Ecclesiastes 3:1

For everything there is a season, and a time for every activity under heaven

A time to love and a time to hate , a time for war and a time for peace.

This scripture addresses the fact that things change and that God has a certain timing for all the changes in our lives. A time to love and a time to hate,a time for war and a time for peace, covers the full range of human emotions and surcumstances Our capabilities to both love and hate is part of being created in God’s image. Therefore, sometimes hatred and anger plainly reveal the emotions of our true love. While there are times when…

Ecclesiastes 3:1,8

This is very hard for me… War and hate, is there really a time for those awful things?… But God is in charge and in control. I am not to question his decisions or his timing but dream of a world with love and peace.

Dear Father, I pray for peace in this world, and I pray for the innocent people that suffer from the consequences of war. Whatever it is, you will be done. Amen.

Ecclesiastes 3:1, 8

The hippies of the late 60's said "make love, not war." I am surprised that Solomon thought there should be a time for war. Or maybe as he looked back he observed that war ha been a constant in his life. To me, however, I see no season where war should be acceptable. There is never a noble purpose to war. It has almost always been about power. Power over people, their beliefs, their land and its resources. War is a SIN.

Prayer: Gracious God, if only all the world accepted your words of love and peace, there might be only a time for peace. Amen

Ecclesiastes 3:1,8

So when exactly is the time to hate and the time for war? The only thing that makes any sense to me Is hating what God hates and going to war against it. God hates sin and upon enlistment into the army of God, my duty is to fight against it with everything I’ve got. What I don’t have to fight the battle, I trust God to provide.

Prayer - Merciful and gracious God, thank You for Your promise to never

leave nor forsake me. Help me be a good and faithful soldier in Your war against sin. Amen
