1Samuel 17:45
David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.”
I loved this devotion today from the Upper Room! The writer points out how David actually was prepared for his battle with Goliath. God had been preparing him throughout his youth, in his role as shepherd. He was skilled and quite fearless against large animals. How has God prepared each of us for our ministries or potential ministries? What are we good at? How can we think outside the box and put our skills and talents to use in new ways?
Holy Lord, you give us what we need. We may not feel prepared, but we are prepared. You are with us. Amen

1 Samuel 17:32-37 17:45
I often hear people say they wish they knew what God's plan was for them. Even in this group, I've heard this statement. I have wondered this myself. Long ago I decided instead of wondering was God wants me to do, I would do what I was best doing--teach. That had been my career. When I retired, I decided I wanted to make a difference--but how? I started by volunteering in an elementary school. (very different from my High School experience). It was hard work but fun. Then through my church I began a partnership with a local Nursing Home. After much experimenting, I was again teaching. So I've decided maybe that's been his plan--but…
Prepared for God’s plan
(Focus) those who feel ill-equipped
1 Samuel 17:45
Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.
The first thought after reading this, was ( WOW these were fighting words)David was sure of the power he had with God as his defender. Like David we all have enemies in our lives who need to be dealt with. I see clearly from David’s example how I should approach the enemies I may face in my own life. I wish I had…
1Samuel 17:45
The stated prayer focus of today’s reflection is people whose feel ill-equipped. We must be aware and supportive of the gifts and talents of our siblings in Christ. There are times when all of us may feel we are not up to the task ahead of us, but God has already equipped us with the skills to get it done and the discernment to know when to ask for help or delegate a portion of the task to other, more capable hands. There are plenty, like Saul in this story, who will doubt or challenge our ability, qualifications or commitment. With God’s help, we can and will see our task through. This may not silence our critics, but…
