John 1:3
Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
Knitting last night with friends, we talked about making things for others; not just knitting, but other creative/created pieces which we have given to others. We have all experienced this in some fashion. When the gift is taken care of and enjoyed, we feel extra-special. When it is lost, or discarded, or not valued, we feel somewhat less. God made absolutely everything which is, or was, a part of this earth. We show our love for God by taking care of it. In this way I can give thanks to God. My next steps will be to find some concrete ways I can do things differently.
Holy One, I do respect the gifts you have given us through your creation. We do not do a great job of taking care of your gifts. I am sorry for my part in that. I will find ways to do better. Amen

When I reflect on these words from John it reminds me of how we should take care of our world in many small ways. When I was a young girl the family was out for a ride and I opened a piece of gum and threw the wrapper out the window. I did not realize my Dad saw what I did. He pulled over to the side of the road and I had to get out of the car and pick up the gum wrapper I had discarded. It taught me a great lesson in being a caring person about the earth that God made for all of us to enjoy. It saddens me when I see what has bee…

John 1:3
Through him all things were made without him nothing was made that has been made.
So easy to understand. I used to wonder what am I doing on this earth, what is my purpose. Does my existence account for anything. Am I alone in thinking this way. Luckily, there is a truth for us that is bigger than we could ever imagine. God created everything. You and I exist only because god made us and we have special gifts, only because God gave them to us. If I/we can understand this, it will affect the way we think and feel about everything. Now we know why everything exists. But we don’t know everything. There …
John1:3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
I am sharing a piece that I read this morning about creation care. I do not advocate for a particular political view or party. In fact, both major political parties have failed to live up to the biblical standard of care for creation. When we fail to see the world as God’s creation, we will end up abusing it
Why should we be concerned about the environment? It isn’t just because of the dangers we face from pollution, climate change, or other environmental problems—although these are serious. For Christians, the issue is much deeper: We know that God created the world, and it belongs…
John 1:3 As sometimes happens with me, a song comes to mind. This is My Father’s World, UMH #144. It is only three verses but it is a beautiful reminder of all he has created for us to enjoy. As stewards of his creation, we must do a better job of taking care of all the wonders he’s created. We all want our future generations to enjoy all that we have today. As an example, will my great granddaughter see many monarch butterflies in her garden as an adult? I will do what I can to make this happen. Prayer: gracious God, my prayer today is for the people of this world to open their eyes to all that is around them…
John 1:3
Two words in this verse in the context of the image of the flower captures my imagination this morning - all and nothing. Every part of God’s creation at every stage of its existence has a role or function in the circle of life that surrounds us. This red flower, once a seed, then a stem and bud, then a brilliantly colorful and fragrant flower is, even now, as its petals fade, curl and wither is providing pollen for bees that will continue the cycle. We cannot profess to honor God while not honoring and lovingly tending to creation.
Prayer - God of all that has been made, open my eyes to the importance of all creation in…
