Romans 12:1-8
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is —his good, pleasing and perfect will.
For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the
grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.
1Timothy 1:12
I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me trustworthy, appointing me to his service.
When I first started playing the piano at Harris Hill, I was pretty nervous. Not as much about the playing itself, but all the other things: meeting all of the new people, chatting with people, finding my way around, discovering whether all of the keys worked on the piano, etc. And a big unknown was whether they would enjoy the music. All of those concerns dissolved into thin air pretty quickly. There are challenges, but God has let me know that this is where He wishes for me to be. Even if something gets in the way of my preparations, things always go well enough for a happy afternoon for all involved. I am thankful that God has given me a way to serve others, and that he did not give up on me (or allow me to give up) along the way. And Lord, I ask that you be with Katie and her team today, and that her shoulder surgery goes well. We love her so. Amen

Romans 12:1-8. 1 Timothy 1:12
I read the following on FaceBook this morning. Later, I read our devotion verses. The two belong together. From Rev. Leonard Sweet:
The runway appears when you start moving. If we waited until we were “good enough” to serve God, nothing would ever get done. “Trust in the Lord and do good.—Psalm 37:3. Grace does its best work in unfinished people. The kingdom doesn’t move forward on readiness. It moves forward on reliance.
Prayer: Gracious Lord, thank you for this reminder that we are “ready” whenever the opportunity comes our way. AMEN

HUMBLE SERVICE
(Focus: for willingness to serve
Today’s Reading: Roman’s 12: 1-8
1 Timothy 1:12p
I thank him who has given me strength, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he judged me faithful, appointing me to his service,
Together, these scriptures remind me how we use our special gifts by serving both God and others. So I thought about our zoom Bible study every Tuesday, and gave considerable thought to each one of us and how we use our individual gifts. The scripture talks about seven different gifts. 1.Prophesying, 2.serving others, 3. teaching, 4. encouragement. 5. needs of others, 6.:leadership. and finally 7.showing mercy The spiritual gifts are given by grace and are not based on our…
Romans 12:1-8/1Timothy 1:12
I always think of Bev when our study and reflection turn to Romans 12. The translation in the Upper Room this morning uses a term I have apparently glossed over in the past in verse two, but one that really fits the spirit of message; “This is your appropriate priestly service.” In his letter to Rome and to his protege, Timothy, Paul teaches we are called to provide service to others. That service is considered “priestly.” I never specifically thought of it in that way, but it makes perfect sense. Our service, stemming from the unique gifts we have received from God, may not be formally recognized as sacred rites of the church as performed by a…
