Psalm 61:2-5
From the ends of the earth I call to you,
I call as my heart grows faint;
lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
For you have been my refuge,
a strong tower against the foe.
I long to dwell in your tent forever
and take refuge in the shelter of your wings.
For you, God, have heard my vows;
you have given me the heritage of those who fear your name.
Psalm 62:7
My salvation and my honor depend on God;
he is my mighty rock, my refuge.
God is such a perfect teacher. He leads me, time after time, to what I need to read and experience in order to grow my faith. Today I am struck by verse 5 of Psalm 51: For you, God, have heard my vows; you have given me the heritage of those who fear your name. Once again, ancestry and tradition are named as important pieces of one’s faith. This is not a tradition of worshiping a golden calf, or holding on to empty rituals. This is the tradition of knowing the one true God, and following Him. We are part of this family!
Holy Lord, I am so thankful to be a part of the family of God. You are a loving and perfect Father, and with you, I have nothing at all to fear. Amen

STEPS TO LIFE
(Focus gratitude for hymns that strength my faith
Today’s Reading
Psalm 61:2-5
Psalm 62:7
On God rests my salvation and my glory; my mighty rock, my refuge is God.
David recognizes that all of his trust and faith is in God alone. People may slander and attack, but believers in God can wait for justice. .Whether weak or powerful, all people are subject to God's judgment. Our own value and safety come from God, not from worldly achievements or other people's opinions. In this world our achievements are often measured by popularity, wealth, or accomplishments, this verse calls us to keep our identity in God alone. Who we are, what becomes of our…
Psalm 61:2-5. Psalm 62:7
From the Message 62:7
My help and glory are in God-Granite -strength and safe harbor God
God of granite strength. We in NH understand the strength of granite. Rock hard and impenetrable. Something we can count on in our God when we need it. Safe Harbor God. When we need his arms around us, he offers himself to us. What more can we ask of our Lord.
Prayer: Gracious God, help me to always remember, like David did, to count on your power and strength and your welcoming safety. AMEN
Psalm 61:2-5/Psalm 62:7
This morning’s Upper Room reflection is from Indonesia, home to the world’s largest population of Muslims at 220 million. Just 10% of Indonesians are Christian and when the writer describes taking refuge in God, she is speaking from a perspective that is difficult for me to fully grasp. Christianity in this country may not be as respected as it once was, but we face no extreme persecution as is seen in other countries around the world. How can we get our fellow believers to fully understand what a blessing it is to be able to practice our faith so freely and then go out and actually practice it? Apathy and passivity will not bode well for the…
