Isaiah 45:1-7
“This is what the LORD says to his anointed,
to Cyrus, whose right hand I take hold of
to subdue nations before him
and to strip kings of their armor,
to open doors before him
so that gates will not be shut:
I will go before you
and will level the mountains;
I will break down gates of bronze
and cut through bars of iron.
I will give you hidden treasures,
riches stored in secret places,
so that you may know that I am the LORD,
the God of Israel, who summons you by name.
For the sake of Jacob my servant,
of Israel my chosen,
I summon you by name
and bestow on you a title of honor,
though you do not acknowledge me.
I am the LORD, and there is no other;
apart from me there is no God.
I will strengthen you,
though you have not acknowledged me,
so that from the rising of the sun
to the place of its setting
people may know there is none besides me.
I am the LORD, and there is no other.
I form the light and create darkness,
I bring prosperity and create disaster;
I, the LORD, do all these things.”
These words from God Himself through the prophet Isaiah hold many promises. Today I am looking for one promise. Be with me today, Lord, and guide my path. Help me to listen well, to understand, and to respond with compassion as I return to work after nearly two months away. Help me to be kind, to offer hope and peace in some small measure. If it be your will, help those I meet today to see your light shining from me. Amen

Isaiah 45:4
For the sake of my servant Jacob, and Israel my chosen, I call you by your name, I name you, though you do not know me.
This scripture teaches me to recognize God's sovereignty in world events, trusting His plans even when I don't understand them, and responding with faith and confidence to His call. The verse, which says God called Cyrus by name although he (Cyrus) didn't know Him, also teaches me that God's plan works through people who may not acknowledge Him, urging believers to find assurance in His control and to extend God's invitation for salvation to others.
God anointed Cyrus so that he…
Isaiah 45:1-7.
So many people are just too busy to notice all the beauty around them. Most of you know I love sunrises and sunsets. I capture photos of them with my phone and share them on FaceBook. I often her from people that they wished they had seen it! Now I have my grandchildren, nieces, and nephews often sharing sunrises and sunsets with me. A grandson once sent me a sunset picture he took from his college dorm window and a granddaughter sent me one from a parking lot where she was shopping, My heart is full!
Prayer: Gracious God, help people slow down and look around them. There is so much of your beautiful creation for them …
Isaiah 45:1-7
“I will give you hidden treasures,
riches stored in secret places,
so that you may know that I am the LORD,”
God’s treasures are often hidden in plain sight, like the rainbow in this morning’s Upper Room reflection. Mindfulness is something I need to cultivate. Most of the time I find myself beset by tunnel vision and doing so impedes my ability to truly see God’s hidden treasures. Just a glance out the windows where I do my morning devotional readings and prayers, with its brilliant and rich colors, even against a backdrop of rain, is a reminder of the treasures the Lord provides and what a gift this life can be.
Prayer - All-powerful God, Your treasures…
