Proverbs 12:18
Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.
Proverbs 16:24
Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.
God has given us free will, and His indwelling Holy Spirit as our guide. I believe we are meant to heal one another in the emotional/relational way described in these proverbs. This is all possible only with God’s grace and power. Of course, with this comes the power to do much damage, which each of us has seen. Thinking of my interactions with others as an opportunity for healing might help me to pause and reflect before speaking. “The tongue of the wise brings healing.”
Holy God, thank you for these words today. I will hold them in my heart. Help me, Father, to remember. Amen

Proverbs 12:18 some people make cutting remarks but the words of the wise brings healing. Proverbs 16:24 kind words are like honey – sweet to the soul and healthy for the body. “Be Kind”. You see these words so often in the media today. Why do we need to be reminded to be kind? It should be easy and second nature. Our world is so divided today that the need to be “right” often means to try to cut someone’s ideas down as wrong. I remember on a walk during the Covid shut down seeing a sidewalk chalk saying, “ if you can be anything be kind. “. Yes, be kind, as it is “sweet to the soul and healthy to the…
Proverbs 12:18 The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.
I can recall way too many times in my life when I spoke quickly out of anger or hurt and how those words hurt someone else. I also realize how different the result is when I took time to think about how to help the other person. The choice is obvious but not always easy.
Dear Lord, help me to curb my quick responses and think before speaking. Amen.
Proverbs 12: 18, 16: 24
12:18 The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.
Words can heal or hurt. Sometimes words can pierce like a sword. Jesus told us that we are accountable for every carelessly spoken word. This verse tells me of the wonderful words of a wise person who thinks before they speak.
Dearest Lord, how many times did I speak before I thought? Continue to send me the Holy Spirit to keep my mouth closed if I have nothing good to say. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
Proverbs 12:18 - “Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.”
Countless are the times when the second the words came out of my mouth I immediately regretted spewing them out. Not only do they pierce like a sword, but scars are left behind as well. My hope is that over the years, those who I have pierced with harsh words have had a measure of healing by wiser speech from more loving lips through me guided by the Holy Spirit.
Prayer - Holy Spirit, guard my thoughts so as to bridle my tongue. Make my words a healing balm rather than a weapon that causes harm. Amen

Proverbs 16-24 Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body. This proverb reminds me that the thoughts I have will eventually come out of my mouth. When my words agree with God’s word I will know why they are called sweet like honeycombs. Be kind as I speak to others using encouraging words instead of harsh and hurtful words. I used to determine my worth and value based on what was said to me by others, but I am learning to know my worth with God. It often takes very little effect to do a great deal of Good. It only takes a word of encouragement, a hug, or even just a smile that ca…
