A Daily Devotion for Monday, June 2

I Timothy 2:1-2

I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.

I don’t often stop to pray for my community or neighborhood. There are so many different people and situations who need our prayer. I remember many years ago when I was involved in the Gideons with Tom. The wives could be part of the Auxiliary and there were meetings and projects we could do. Once I went to a workshop on prayer, and came home with a systematized program for my own daily prayer. It sounds dry and automatic, but it was not. It was so helpful, I am sorry I ever gave it up. Starting with prayer for family, eventually you had prayed for the world and all of its many people. Prayer is so powerful, and is fascinating and incomprehensible. I should not allow it to take a back seat to anything else that calls on my time.

Holy Lord, hear my prayers, and help me to know and remember how important my prayer life is. Keep me from complacency. Help me to more fully understand. Amen

Becky, transforming

1 Timothy 2:1-2

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.

So I think about my country, for President Trump and Vice President Vance. For the leaders in the House of Representatives, in the Senate, for justices on the Supreme Court, for governors in states and all  other elected leaders. I  pray that you would turn their hearts towards you, that you would help them to do justice and love mercy and walk humbly with you. I pray for their…

I Timothy 2:1-7

When reading these verses, I can’t help but think about all the turmoil in our world today. Nightly, I pray for God to be present with and guide our country’s leaders. I also pray for a more peaceful world, and pray for the innocent people who are affected by the atrocities of war. More importantly, I pray that more people all over the world come to know Christ. I am comforted knowing God hears my prayers for others.

Dear Lord, I pray to you for a more peaceful world. I pray for Your guidance for leaders all over the world and I pray for those who are planting the seeds of Your word, of Jesus Christ and…

Timothy 2:1-7.

I sometimes have trouble falling asleep. My brain seems to go into high gear as soon as my head hits the pillow. I once read of a solution that said to pray your way through the alphabet. Long enough to detour your brain, short enough to allow sleep to happen. For example, I pray for my niece Alice, my step-grandson Ben, for my County, etc. Sometimes I"m praying for people, sometimes it is places, or just something that comes to mind for difficult letters. I try not to skip over praying for people and things I do not like if they fit the letter. My goal is to divert my brain to others and away from my…

I Timothy 2:1-2

It is interesting that in calling for prayer for all people, this verse makes specific mention of those in authority. Indeed, this group of people can greatly influence how peaceful and quiet our lives can be. My prayer for them all would be to tone down their reckless and inflammatory partisan rhetoric, find a way to sit in the same room, work together and focus on negotiated solutions to our social, economic and foreign policy issues. Setting an example at their level would bring a calming influence to the grassroots level where long time friendships are needlessly strained by such nonsense.

Prayer - God of peace, Your children yearn for lives that are peaceful and quiet. I…
