1 Corinthians 10:13

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

When I have read this passage in the past, I have always thought about big, sinful temptations, and the passage sort of lost its relevance for me. I am not tempted to rob a bank or cheat on my income tax or steal from a neighbor. But when I consider the passage recognizing distractions as temptations, the passage becomes much more helpful to me. I definitely can use the support of the Holy Spirit to help me to fight off distractions. Distractions keep me from prayer, they keep me from sleeping, and they get in the way of my being productive. God has a way for me, through every situation.

Holy Lord, you always provide a way for me, even if I am distracted and trying to go in a different direction. Help me to listen and watch for your Holy Spirit in my life, showing me the way. Amen

1 Corinthians 10:13

No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

Paul gave strong encouragement to the Corinthians about temptation. Satan takes our circumstances and uses them to build strong defenses in our lives. He will use whatever means he can. If I  give into temptation am I saying that God is not able to help me. When temptation comes, I have to remember that I’m not experiencing anything unusual. Jesus experienced it too. I need to remember that…

1 Corinthians 10:13

Like me, I know there are many worriers out there. Worry is a distraction from having a peaceful life. I am slowly learning to turn my worry over to Him—slowly. I used to be proud of worrying —someone has to care! I’ve slowly learned how much it has robbed me of the calmness I long for. I am a work in progress.

Prayer: Gracious God, help me to turn to yiu as soon as I feel the need to worry about something. Amen

1 Corinthians 10:13 - from The Message

"No test or temptation that comes your way is beyond what others have had to face.... God wil never let yu down....He will always be there..."

Whenever I have a set of tasks that I have trouble getting started on I ask God's help. He is right there! If He is going to help, then I am more motivated to start imediately.

Thank you Lord for your omnipresence. It is wonderful beyoud measure. Amen

1 Corinthians 10:13

The way out that God provides is a bit of a two-edged sword. Being in the image and likeness of God we have been granted free will and unlimited consultation with the Holy Spirit. We are neither forced to sin nor forced to choose a better way, but we have been given the resources to discern and make the right choices if we avail ourselves of them. Even in failure, the Holy Spirit convicts us of our sin and God forgives, allowing a new start. God always provides if our heart is right.

Prayer - Forgiving God, I don’t believe I have sinned yet today, but the world’s distractions await. Help me to use what You have…
