A Daily Devotion for Monday, March 2

Jeremiah 29:11-12

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.”

Isaiah 6:8

“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here I am. Send me!”

The journey God has prepared for us is not always an easy one. And we never know exactly what his plans are for us. But what I am hearing in these passages today is the reminder to remain willing, and to follow God. No matter what, when we follow God and seek to always follow Him according to his will, we can be assured He is with us. When we experience emotional or physical upsets or obstacles, we can know that God is in it with us. It is part of the plan. We are not being punished but are being turned toward Him.

Holy Lord, help me to remember your teaching from these passages of Isaiah and Jeremiah. May I always be willing to follow your perfect will, knowing you are beside me. I am forever thankful. Amen

Becky, transforming

CALLED TO SERVE

(Focus young people discerning their calling

Today’s reading Jeremiah 29:11-12 ( has god called to me about my career path)

( Christian song, here I am lord)

Isaiah 6:8m

And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.”

Jeremiah 29:11-12 is not a promise of an easy walk in the park, but encourages us to believe  God’s plans are ultimately for our own good.…

Jeremiah 29:11-12, Isaiah 6:8

One of my favorite hymns is “Here I am Lord” inspired by the Isaiah reading today. This song always moves me as soon as it starts. We are all called to serve in some way, called to pray, called to give, called to use our time, called to use our gifts and talents, all of it is so very important. None of it is too small or insignificant. We never know where or when it will be but the calling is part of God‘s plan. Sometimes it’s a little nudge and sometimes it’s a massive shove. Then we asked, “Is it I Lord?”

Heavenly Father, thank you for calling to me, thank you for the opportunities…

Jeremiah 29:11-12. Isaiah 6:8

The Isaiah verse probably led to composer Dan Schutte writing of a beautiful modern (1981) hymn, "Here I AM Lord." It has become one of my favorites. While some find it a bit difficult to sing, the refrain is easy. We are all called to serve in one way or another. Our call is to simply use our own gifts of time and talent in His name. We should never compare our work to others. Each of us knows what we can and cannot do. We should never think that the cards we might send to shut-in isn't as good as what others might be doing--God does not think that way.

Jeremiah 29:11-12/Isaiah 6:8

One of the hymns that never fails to move me is “Here I Am, Lord.” Slowing down one’s busy life and quieting all the noise to hear God’s voice can yield surprises. As was pointed out by this morning’s Upper Room contributor, God’s call may not be to what is culturally formally recognized as a ministry, but if we listen, follow and “work as for the Lord and not for men,” we are doing the will of God. Whatever form that takes, it is indeed at some level, ministry. Lent is the perfect time to slow down, make room for silent reflection and confirm our call from God as how best to serve others based on our…
