Genesis 1:20
And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky.”
Why all this beauty and life around us? Our lives could just have easily been created in grey shades and silence. Instead we are surrounded by God’s colorful and noisy creation, 24/7. Despite all of these undeserved gifts, we tend to keep our heads down, moving “forward”, day after day. I love today’s writer’s description of becoming tuned in to birdsongs. She has an excellent point, in that we have the capacity to become just as “tuned in” to listening for God’s voice and His perfect will.
Holy Lord, you have blessed your human creation with beautiful natural wonders- birds and animals, plants, flowers and trees which shade and feed us. Help me to not only continue to appreciate and take care of these things, but to see you in each and every piece of nature. As I see and honor your creation, I will listen for you, as often these natural wonders bring me closer to you, and may open my ears to your direction. Speak to me, Lord. Amen

God has given us so many beautiful things in nature for us to enjoy and I praise Him for it. From the small sweet sparrow to the vast natural wonders like the Grand Canyon or the Arches in Utah….such creations are such a blessing and bring me peace. We should do what we can to take care of and protect God’s creation.
Heavenly Father, thank you for all your perfect creations on this earth. Help me to never take Your works for granted and help me to always take time to notice and take in the beauty of it all. I praise You and thank You for all of these things. Amen

I recently added an app on my Phone called Merlin. It records and identifies bird calls. It works very well and I am learning what birds I have in my yard. The question posed today, "Am I Listening?" isn't about bird songs, but are we listening to God. Are we "still" enough to hear. My favorite verse is "Be still and know that I am God." I need this reminder during this especially busy summer. Am I listening to those around me so I may help them? I need to be still and listen. There is no app for that!

God made everything in our creation in six days,and on the seventh day he rested. He said everything was good. He did not say everything was perfect. His creation was magnificent in every way. He put everything into place with just a thought. Genesis 1:20 Creation care is deeply embedded in the Scouting program and summer camp is a tremendous vehicle to teach it. We share the reservation with an impressive array of wildlife in the woods, the lakes and the sky. This is something our many Scouts from urban areas rarely see. Proximity to this gift of God can foster a new and deep respect for the created natural world. Their very presence is God’s voice. I firmly believe that tuning into it can be life-changing for the Scouts who really make the effort to do so.
