A Daily Devotion for Monday, January 17

John 16:33

”I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

These words from Jesus really should be all I ever need. A life with Jesus elevates us to a different sort of existence, in terms of fear and sorrow. We always have the assurance of conquering the difficulties of our present lives through an eternity with Jesus. Jesus promises us peace today.

Father God, you have always been generous and kind to me, granting peace just for asking. The promise of eternity in your presence is more than I can clearly comprehend. You have promised an eternity with no sorrow, no sickness. I am grateful. Amen

John 16:33 What I like best about this verse is that Jesus is speaking—not Paul or Matthew or Peter. They were spoken to his disciples 2000 years ago, but they speak clearly to me today. He wants me to have peace, yet he knows there will be times of difficulty and sorrow. Because he has overcome the world, so we can also because of our belief in him and his words. Prayer: Gracious God, your words are a comfort for me today and always. Amen

John 16:33 Jesus accepted his Father's will to go to the cross. He defeated the power of sin and death through his own sacrificial death. He ensured that death would not have the final say. So in the middle of sorrows and trials we can have peace — not because things are easy, but because the hard things of this life are temporary and he is preparing us for eternal glory. Our peace is not without strife or troubles, but what Jesus has done to make our future sure! Such simple words from Jesus spoken to his disciples but the assurance, comfort, and encouragement will continue throughout eternity . These words were spoken as he was about to face the mos…

John 16: 33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

I find peace in my life by my understanding of God’s plan and how I work with it. I am coming to realize that all my worry and anxiety are just a waste of my time. It has been a long and well-traveled road to realize that we are all given some form of sorrow to deal with in this life. It’s how I handle it that matters. I still worry, but not as much and I attempt to put all my trust in God because He has…

John 16:33

“I have overcome the world.” I see everyday that Satan is the prince of this world, but my faith and Scripture tells me he is a defeated foe. Though he will enjoy his little victories, stirring up trouble when and wherever possible, the ultimate outcome for those who nurture and grow their faith makes him irrelevant.

Prayer - God of power, I depend on You alone to overcome life’s troubles. I will do my part in faith, but understand that by myself, I am no match for Satan. I must lean on the One who has overcome the world. Amen
